I should have thought this film would have been made strictly as a Lifetime Original Movie, starring Melissa Gilbert, with guest appearances by the Warrens, themselves--commercials every eight minutes for a cure to restless leg syndrome.

Speaking as someone who investigates haunted homes as "true events," I feel that one of the most irresponsible affects of a film like this claiming to be connected to true events is that it emboldens those believing themselves to be haunted, to rely on the movie's details as a gauge by which to judge paranormal activity in their own lives. In their direct-to-video imaginations, their own unexplained experiences no longer require explanations, but, rather, filmic interpretations. In cases like A Haunting In Chula Vista; A Haunting in Student Housing; A Haunting In Mrs. Moggelhoff's Cabana; etc., these special effects become unwitting archetypes in their stories. It's exasperating to try to parse out these hyperboles in the stories of eight-year-olds, but it's more disturbing when you recognize them in the stories of adults who, because the film is allegedly based on true events, now feel they have "permission" to co-opt these scream-worthy moments in the movie as their own. Disturbin', I tells ya!

And, just FYI: If a psychic you know starts spewing anything out of one or more orifices, take her to a real doctor at once, not the Warrens.

we all knew it was gonna be steaming pile of cattle grazing aftermath. And we all knew that based on a true story is about as true as well.... any true story a movie is based on. But the warren family? I had no clue. Im glad that bit was in the review.
